Mark Shiel is a film scholar who teaches in the Film Studies Program at King's College London. He is the author of the book Italian Neorealism: Rebuilding the Cinematic City (2006) and editor of two important books on the relationship between cinema and cities - Cinema and the City (2001) and Screening the City (2003), both with Tony Fitzmaurice. He is currently at work on a new monograph The Real Los Angeles: Hollywood, Cinema, and the City of Angels (forthcoming, 2009). Born in Dublin, Ireland, he was educated at Trinity College Dublin (undergraduate studies) and at Birkbeck College, University of London (graduate studies). He has been a Davis Center Fellow at the Shelby Cullom Davis Center for Historical Studies in the Department of History at Princeton University (2006-07) and a Leverhulme Trust Research Fellow and Visiting Scholar in the Department of Film, Television, and Digital Media at UCLA (2003-04).
