Mark Shiel is a scholar of film, media, and urbanization based in the Department of Film Studies at King's College London. He is the author of the books Hollywood Cinema and the Real Los Angeles (2012) and Italian Neorealism: Rebuilding the Cinematic City (2006); and he is the editor of Screening the City (2003) and Cinema and the City (2001), both with Tony Fitzmaurice. Born in Dublin, Ireland, he attended school at Blackrock College, was an undergraduate at Trinity College Dublin, and a graduate student at Birkbeck College, University of London. He has been a Davis Center Fellow at the Shelby Cullom Davis Center for Historical Studies in the Department of History at Princeton University (2006-07) and a Leverhulme Trust Research Fellow and Visiting Scholar in the Department of Film, Television, and Digital Media at UCLA (2003-04).
