Mark Shiel is a film scholar who teaches in the Film Studies Program at King's College London. He is the author of the book Italian Neorealism: Rebuilding the Cinematic City (2006) and the editor of Cinema and the City (2001) and Screening the City (2003), both with Tony Fitzmaurice. He is currently at work on a new monograph The Real Los Angeles: Hollywood, Cinema, and the City of Angels (forthcoming, 2010). Born in Dublin, Ireland, he was an undergraduate at Trinity College Dublin and a graduate student at Birkbeck College, University of London. He has been a Davis Center Fellow at the Shelby Cullom Davis Center for Historical Studies in the Department of History at Princeton University (2006-07) and a Leverhulme Trust Research Fellow and Visiting Scholar in the Department of Film, Television, and Digital Media at UCLA (2003-04).
